Project Overview
Designed and implemented a full Boomi integration layer connecting a NetSuite ERP to a third-party warehouse management system (WMS) across 10+ endpoints. The organization had relied on a manual, spreadsheet-driven fulfillment workflow that introduced operational bottlenecks and delayed inventory visibility.
The engagement replaced manual interventions with automated, real-time data exchanges between external retail trading partners, NetSuite, and the third-party warehouse management system.
What Was Built
- Inbound Purchase Order Processing (EDI 850): Automated ingestion and validation of inbound purchase orders from trading partners into NetSuite.
- Outbound ASN & Invoicing (EDI 856 & EDI 810): Outbound Advance Ship Notices (856) and invoice transactions (810) transmitted via AS2 and secure SFTP protocols.
- Automated Functional Acknowledgments (EDI 997): Receipt verification and acknowledgment flows for trading partner message tracking.
- Scheduled Inventory Level Synchronization: Automated sync between the 3PL WMS and NetSuite on defined intervals to maintain consistent stock counts.
- Fulfillment Status Writeback: Real-time shipment status and tracking confirmation updates written back to NetSuite upon warehouse release.
- Error Alerting & Reprocessing Framework: Dead-letter queue mechanism capturing failed transaction payloads with automated alerts for rapid remediation.
Architecture Design Decision
Designed a hub-and-spoke model in Boomi utilizing shared canonical data shapes. Instead of building isolated point-to-point processes for each customer or vendor, all inbound trading partner payloads map directly into the canonical layer, allowing new trading partners to be onboarded rapidly with minimal new process construction.
