Healthcare System Integration — EHR to Claims Platform

Role: Integration DeveloperPlatform: MuleSoft
Industry: HealthcareDuration: ~6 Months

Overview

Built MuleSoft integrations connecting an Electronic Health Record system to a claims processing platform, automating the transmission of clinical data required for billing and prior authorization.

What I Built

  • Real-time HL7 v2 clinical message ingestion from the EHR via secure MLLP protocol
  • Complex DataWeave transformations converting HL7 segment trees into FHIR R4 JSON payloads
  • Automated prior authorization submission pipeline triggered on specific diagnostic and clinical events
  • Claims adjudication polling and status writeback directly into the provider EHR encounter records
  • Robust HL7 acknowledgment (ACK/NACK) generation and automated exception reporting pipelines

Architecture

Leveraged MuleSoft’s Healthcare Accelerator framework extended with custom DataWeave maps to support provider-specific clinical schemas. This enabled seamless bi-directional data flow while enforcing strict HIPAA compliance, message validation, and auditability across all transactions.

Tech Stack

Outcome: Reduced prior authorization turnaround time by 40%. Claims submission errors dropped significantly due to structured validation.

I’m currently open to senior integration architecture roles — both full-time and contract engagements — with a preference for remote work. If you’re evaluating integration talent or building out an iPaaS practice, I’d welcome the conversation.
